What to Do This Weekend
July 18, 2008
It is Friday and another weekend is upon us. So what is in store for this weekend? Lots of music and festivals.
First up, the Vancouver Folk Festival. While a little expensive for the adults in the household, kids 12 and under are free. There is a ton of family friendly entertainment and a Little Folks Village with entertainment and activities. Runs Friday evening to Sunday night.
Next we have Surrey Fusion Festival as part of the celebrations of Surrey as the Cultural Capital of Canada. A mixture of music and food and crafts from over 20 cultural groups. A free festival in Holland Park, the only tickets required to guarantee a seat are for Friday evening's concert and are available from their website.
On Sunday, Burnaby has its Discovery Day Festival in Deer Lake Park at the Shadbolt Centre. It is Burnaby's largest community grass roots festival showcases a variety of organizations involved in arts and culture, heritage, sports and leisure. Visitors of all ages will enjoy music, live theatre, street performances and interactive visual arts activities throughout the day.
Over the next two weeks the HSBC Festival of Light is coming back to Vancouver's beaches. A competition, Canada starts off on Wednesday July 23 starting at 10 pm. I know that some kids will not be up for this, but if you get a chance to see it down on English Bay or across the way on Kits point of Vanier park it might be worth it. The other performances are USA: 26 July, China: 30 July, Finale: 2 August.
All Over the Map continues Sundays on Granville Island. This week is Polynesian dance and music. All performances are Sundays at 2pm in Ron Basford Park.
As always there are tons more things happening in the Greater Vancouver Area. If you have something you would like me to feature, send me an email.
